ECLYPSE Testimonial
Hi my name is Tina, I’m 16 years old. I’ve been going to ECLYPSE for almost a year now and it’s a really fun, calm and safe place for me to be in. I enjoy the time that I spend at ECLYPSE. When I have something on my mind and I want to tell it someone or if something has happened or so on I would always have the youth workers to talk to.
I’ve also been in there programs and its fun. For music I did karaoke because I love singing; for photography I took some really cool pics and at the end we took pics of a social issue that’s going on in the world. I also did visual arts and we made art using CD’s. I also did modern batik just for fun and it awesome.
There are also presentations at the beginning on social issues and it also teaches me a lot about what is going on around us. Some of the social issues that they talk about are mental health, substance abuse, stress management, healthy relationships, employment, youth entrepreneurship etc. There is lots more but that’s what I mostly remember.

Eclypse youth centre has an amazing environment. The staff there are so nice and outgoing and they really know how to make you feel loved and welcomed. Even on my worst days Eclypse is the first place I want to go, sometimes just to laugh but Kerry “the boss” is really trusting and being able to talk to someone as kind, loving, and opened minded as her really helps those bad days feel less bad. All in all if you are just going there to get hours you’re going to leave feeling like you’re a part of a really really awesome family that will never judge you. I hope this centre can continue to run for a lot more years.

Eclypse is an environment that everyone is comfortable and happy in. All the workers at Eclypse are such amazing people to be around and they make the place fun to be at. Eclypse has benefitted me in so many ways, for instance I have the opportunity to talk to someone in need, the workers can help me on my resume, and I just have a friend to talk to. I have learned so much also. I have learned to budget, to do make-up, and to cook. Everything at Eclypse is helping me learn for my future and I will definitely appreciate everything and everyone at Eclypse. I love that I can be me and not be judged, I can express my feelings and I can say “ I had a good day today” because I was there that day and week. It is a place to be you and not just for volunteering, I recommend a lot of people to go there.

My name is Shanice and I’ve been going to Eclypse for the past 2 months. I’ve been coming back every day because I have fun here and I can all ways talk to the staff about anything. They make me feel very welcome and appreciated. Life skills is my favorite, I love to cook and they give me a lot of new recipes to go home and try. Hip hop is my second favorite because it helps me get out my of my comfort zone and it helps me to be free and who I am. I will always come here, the staff are funny and amazing and they’re also special in their own way so I’m very glad I came here and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

My experience here at ECLYPSE is something that I will take with me wherever I go in life. There have been many laughs, many tears and many heartfelt moments that were shared in my time here. Joining Eclypse has to be one of the greatest opportunities I could have asked for. This community has taught me how with the right communication and the right team, I can achieve a lot. Last year when applying for placement I came across “Eclypse Youth Centre” as an option not knowing that putting in an application through and getting the placement would be a life-changing experience. My last 8 months at Eclypse has been nothing but engaging and challenging and full of positive energy. The staff and other students here do nothing but put forth 100% each and every day. The best part of Eclypse was the relationships I built with the staff, other practicum students and most importantly the youth. I learned to be assertive and how to make an impact from the smallest acts in their day to day lives. I enjoyed coming in and seeing friendly faces and knowing that Eclypse was my home away from home. What I will miss about Eclypse is the unpredictability of your day and the hard, rewarding work that comes from putting forth your best effort. Every day has been a learning opportunity and I hope it will be the same for all the placement students of the future and remember not to limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe and what you can achieve is all in the mind.

It began in third year—I had never known that walking towards a booth labeled “ECLYPSE Youth Centre” in the gym of my college would be a gracious open door to new levels, opportunities, experiences and amazing meaningful relationships. ECLYPSE is definitely a one of a kind space that offers much more than programs and service hours; it offers safety, care, love, genuineness, familiarity, joy and comfort.
